Two men with the same complaint, thinning at the crown and recession at the frontal hairline, can receive very different quotes for their hair fall treatment during their consultations. The treatment plan also differs. One receives a quote for ₹800. The other one receives ₹3,00,000. Both have the same pattern with thinning at the crown; both are 31, and neither can explain the gap in their treatment cost. This confusion leads people to believe they are being scammed, and some might postpone their treatments year after year.
The question our team at QHT Clinic gets asked more than any other is not what works. It is what it costs, every month, for how long. Some patients get a personalised URoots kit with topical actives, prescription medicines and medicated shampoo, while others receive a personalised quote for the surgery.
The common question from both patients is: how much will it cost?
So here it is, without the sales layer: the real hair loss treatment cost in India for 2026.
Prices mean nothing until you know your stage. A doctor-led plan settles that in one step. Get a 2-minute URoots hair test and understand the stage of hair thinning you are at currently.
What treatments are available for hair loss in India?
Before understanding the cost, it is important to know what treatments are available for hair thinning and how they help. Six commonly used treatments have real clinical evidence behind them.
The ideal treatment for you is decided by what is driving the hair loss and your stage of hair loss. Genetic pattern hair thinning, driven by the hormone DHT, accounts for the majority of cases: it affects roughly 80% of men and 50% of women over a lifetime. Other types of shedding can result from stress, illness, thyroid disruptions, iron deficiency or the postpartum period, and require different therapy.
|
Treatment |
What it does |
Who it suits |
|
Topical minoxidil |
Widens the blood vessels, improving nutrient and oxygen delivery to the follicles and prolongs the growth phase in the hair growth cycle. |
First-line for most grades, ideal for both men and women |
|
Finasteride |
Blocks the enzyme that converts testosterone into DHT, directly targeting the mechanism involved in pattern hair fall. |
Men with pattern hair loss in early to moderate stages, prescription-based medicine |
|
Nutritional correction |
Restores the iron, vitamin D, or protein levels and addresses thyroid gap if present |
Diffuse hair fall, post-illness and post-partum shedding |
|
PRP therapy |
Concentrated growth factors from your own blood are injected into the scalp |
Early to moderate thinning, alongside medicines, requires multiple sessions |
|
Low-level laser therapy |
Uses 650-990 nm wavelength red light on scalp that pushes resting follicles back into their growth phase |
An add-on to medical treatment, in clinic or as a home cap, used as adjunctive therapy with minoxidil or PRP |
|
Hair transplant |
Transplants DHT-resistant follicles from the back of the scalp into thinning areas |
Stable, advanced loss where follicles are permanently miniaturised and unlikely to recover from the medical treatment alone |
Three things that the table does not mention:
Minoxidil does not have any effect on hormone production. It provides adequate nutrient and oxygen supply to the follicles. Finasteride directly addresses the hormonal cause, dropping serum DHT levels by around 70%.
Finasteride is a Prescription medicine and is primarily used for men. It is contraindicated in women who are pregnant or planning to be.
PRP and laser therapy are additions, not replacements. Both work best when combined with other medicines or used as maintenance after a transplant. Neither can revive a follicle that has already miniaturised permanently.
Shampoos, serums and scalp rollers sit outside this list. They keep the scalp comfortable enough for you to stay on treatment, which matters more than it sounds, but they are support, never a treatment on their own.
Six treatments, six very different bills. Here is what each one costs.
Why Two People with the Same Hair Fall get Quotes ₹2 Lakh Apart
Three things sit inside every quote you will ever be given.
Diagnosis: What is actually driving the fall: genetic hair fall, nutritional gap, stress, recent illness, scalp infection or side effect of any medication. Each cause points to a different treatment approach and hence costs differently.
Treatment Actives: Minoxidil, finasteride, dutasteride, and nutrient correction. The medications carry different costs, and hence the bill looks different for two individuals with hair fall.
Delivery: Treatment delivery with oral medications, injectables, and light therapy varies. A tablet may cost only a few rupees a day. A PRP session costs thousands per sitting, because you are paying for a room, a centrifuge and a doctor's hands; all add to the final price.
People arrive at a first consultation making a comparison with someone else who has already received treatment. That plan and bill belong to a different scalp at a different stage. A Norwood 2 and a Norwood 6 are not the same problem, and the bill knows it even when the patient does not.

Minoxidil Price in India: Why ₹250 and ₹1,200 Buy the Same Molecule
A generic 5% minoxidil solution can start at around ₹250. A branded 60 mL bottle can cost around ₹1200. Foam costs more than solution. The difference in cost is due to the formulation. Lightweight, non-greasy formulas with penetration-enhancing molecules like transcutol P, lipid technology and minimum to no isopropyl alcohol can cost more. Moreover, a formula which absorbs easily without feeling greasy is more likely to be used consistently than one that irritates the scalp. URoots Minoxidil 5% alcohol-free formula with Redensyl, Procapil and caffeine retails for ₹749. This premium formula is formulated by doctors for daily comfortable use.

Why the Cheapest Hair Fall Treatment Ends Up Costing the Most
A ₹250 bottle that you stop using is more expensive than a ₹3,000 plan that you finish. Results take time to become noticeable, and investing money in different products each time without maintaining consistency can be a waste of money and time. Before investing in random treatment options, it is always better to get a doctor’s consultation that costs you far less and can guide you towards the appropriate treatment. Hair fall after dengue or hormonal shifts responds to different treatments entirely. Money spent before diagnosis can ultimately cost way more.
Another reason that makes hair fall treatments cost more is starting late. Early intervention is always less costly and way more effective. The most ideal way to start a hair regrowth journey is by identifying the underlying trigger of hair fall. Start by taking a free 2-minute URoots hair test. This doctor-led, medically guided platform provides doctor-reviewed recommendations based on your hair loss pattern and stage.
Frequently asked questions
What is the minimum cost of hair loss treatment in India?
Around ₹550 a month, for a generic minoxidil solution (₹250) and a basic supplement. You can start with a ₹0 hair test before you spend money on any medicine. The early intervention usually costs less. Final costs depend on your hair thinning and Norwood grade.
Is a hair transplant cheaper than lifelong medicines?
Over ten years, a transplant may appear cheaper on a simple cost-per-year comparison. A one-time surgical cost spread across a decade competes with ₹15,000 to ₹35,000 a year in medicines. The comparison misleads, though, because a transplant does not necessarily eliminate the need for medicines and ongoing medical treatment. It adds a maintenance plan to them.
Does health insurance cover hair loss treatment in India?
Rarely. Indian health policies classify hair loss treatment and hair transplant surgery as cosmetic, and cosmetic procedures are excluded from the insurance plans. The exception is hair loss caused by an accident, burn or a covered illness. Read your policy's exclusion list to understand what’s included and what’s not.
How many months before I know the money is working?
Do not judge the treatment too early. Most hair fall treatments take several months to show meaningful improvements. Take the same photo on the same date each month, in the same light, on dry hair with the same parting. It costs nothing, and it is the single thing that keeps people from quitting early.
Is PRP worth the cost compared with medicines?
It depends on what you have already tried. PRP has published evidence supporting improvements in hair density, but it costs more than the hair fall medications, and it does not replace the daily routine underneath it. As an addition to a working plan, it makes sense. As a substitute, it rarely does.
